Special Worship Services
Ash Wednesday
"From dust you came and from dust you shall return," is a phrase that is used while the sign of the cross is made with. Ash Wednesday in the chapel is a great tradition and a moment of quiet reflection.
Palm Sunday
As Jesus made his way into Jerusalem the people in the crowd celebrated with palm branches and placed them down at Jesus' feet. We celebrate by singing "The Palms" by Faure, and give out palms to make crosses.
Maundy Thursday
Maundy Thursday begins the Three Days (or Triduum), remembering the new commandment that Christ gave us in word and deed as he taught us how to love one another. We conclude the service in the traditional “stripping of the church” in silence, preparing us for Easter Sunday.
Easter Sunday
Easter Sunday is the center of the Christian year. Our church joyfully proclaims the good news that is at the very heart of the gospel: that Jesus Christ is risen from the dead. We usually invite special musicians to accompany our chancel choir to enhance our festive celebration. A cross of Tulip plants adorn our chancel space along with traditional Easter Lilies and Daffodils.
After worship, children are invited to hunt Easter Eggs!
Pentecost
It was not until the Holy Spirit descended upon the early followers of Jesus that they began “the church”. Thus, from a historical point of view, Pentecost is the day on which the church was started; it is the church’s birthday. We celebrate with balloons and candles as symbols of the Holy Spirit.
Our celebration continues with birthday cake in Fellowship Hall.
Kirkin' o the tartan
Kirkin' o the Tartan is a lot of fun. We have a bagpiper who leads a procession down Washington Street and then compliments the Sunday service with great sounds and the presence of our Reformed heritage. We also commemorate those members who have entered the gates of heaven.
Christmas Pageant
The Christmas Pageant/Cantata is the telling of the birth of Jesus. The children of our congregation, both young and old, are joined by narrators and the choir.
The telling of this story is different every year. We choose a different perspective to view it from, allowing the congregation to experience the Christmas Story in new and meaningful ways.
Christmas Eve
Christmas Eve is a candlelight service filled with beauty. We sing carols, eat sugar cookies, and celebrate the coming of God made flesh in Jesus Christ. In addition, we light candles to remember our loved ones.
