Marriages performed at First Pres are considered a worship service. The Book of Order of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. states it well: "Marriage is a gift God has given to all humankind for the well-being of the entire human family. Marriage is a covenant through which a couple are called to live out together before God their lives of discipleship. In a service of Christian marriage, a lifelong commitment is made, publicly witnessed and acknowledged by the community of faith."

For less formal weddings we offer our chapel as an alternative to a ceremony at City Hall.

Policies governing formal weddings in the sanctuary are contained in our wedding booklet available in the church office. For formal weddings we offer the services of our wedding coordinator Michele Bariteau. She helps couples organize as well as understand the policies of the church regarding weddings. The day of the wedding she helps ensure things go smoothly. You will meet with her in person at least 8 weeks before your ceremony. You will also meet with the minister at least 6 weeks prior to your service to select your vows and scripture readings.

MUSIC

Music must be arranged with the church organist at least 4 weeks prior to the service. Secular or pre-recorded music is not allowed. You may also have a soloist perform.

OTHER

The services of our church sexton will also be needed. Our church secretary can type your bulletins, but the text must be turned in 10 days in advance. We can live stream your ceremony upon your request for those unable to attend.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Flash photography is permitted during the entrance of the parents, the wedding party and the bride. Non-flash photography is permitted from one stationary position during the ceremony. Any video recording is to be done from a stationary position. Close ups can be re-enacted afterwards.

RECEPTION

Reception can be held in Fellowship Hall but we have a policy of no alcohol being served at events. Catering services are allowed.
